#19:Mother’s day commercial

Today is Mother’s Day, we use flowers, kiss, gift and a family dinner to thanks for mothers to take care of us. Shopping centers have variety of commerical activities in Mother’s Day. All the holidays are chances to make money. let’s see some Mother’s day commerical.

Mother’s Day commericals are different than other commericals because ads need to be touching and moving, and people will drive by their emotion to buy stuff for their moms.

I think Mother’s Day commericals can be creative. For example, make story about a little boy or girl grew up when he/she were a child, then step by step show the process of growing and the relationship with mom. When Mother’s Day coming, the child who has already be an adult, collect all the photos about he/ she with mom from a child till now make a booklet for mom. At the end of the page, it says “For my dear mom, happy Mother’s Day,” or some other words. At last show the commercial company name.

I make a Mother’s Day card with a short clip for my mom. I have already send them through email. I hope she like it.

#5: Why bad advertisements are bad?

This is the the bad advertisement that I find on youtube.

Let me analysis why people think this ad is bad.

1. The ad’s story is boring, and not creative:It just shows the prodcut and tells the function, then, show the effects after using this product.

2.It has some kind of exaggerate the effects of the product: the grandma comes in the house, her action and facial expression show the house smell so good that there are no more bad smell, but the actors performance not natural. It  looks so fake that her think the air in the house is so good, and it exaggerates the effects of the product indirectly. Therefore, consumers are difficult to believe the febreze can make the small so good.

I think the story for the ad making the ad boring and not attractive. Therefore, a good story is important for ads. we can more dramatic story. For example, a girl faint in a house, and  neighbour find that, so she call 911 for medical help. Then, the doctors come in the house, they ware gas maks, then, they use febreze in the house, then, the girl wake up. It shows that the bad smelling make people feel unfortable, and febreze can make the house air better. It is better than the old story.(I know may be my story even worse…)

Bad ads gives us altert  that do not make this kind of ads any more, and we need to know why bad ads are bad. Then, we can learn lessons from them, so we do not make the same mistakes when we make ads.

#3: The Ads in My Era

Advertisement is different in different era.

No. 1:Coca Cola ads in 1960s.

No.2: Coca Cola ads in my era.

Do you see the differences between two Coca Cola ads in different era? The Coca Cola ads in 1960s, the characters in ads are people; in my era, the characters are polar bears. In 1960s, computer technology was not good as today, so the company used people in ads, and the media are not variety. People can visual see ads in poster, newspaper, magazine, television and billboards. At that time, Internet hadn’t developed so well. Now, the computer technology are well-developed, so people can use digital technology to make cartoons in ads, and there are variety of media, such as, internet, facebook, youtube and other social media which are also a platform of ads. In my era, the ways of making ads are variety and media can send ads to everywhere.

Because of technology development and media development the ads industry also have changes. They not only show products to the audience, but also they need to be more creative to attract consumers’ attention and persuade them to buy it. The competition between advertising agencies is excited.  Advertising agencies need to have creative ideas on ads, so more clients will have business with them. The exciting competition in ads requires people who are in or want to join in this industry need to be creative, so they can survive in the competition–get good jobs.

I think I need to be more creative, so I can find a good job in ads industry. Watching good and creative ads can help me to learn the creative process of ads. I think in ads industry, there are still a lot of things to learn, not only in class, but also in life.

#2:Funny & Creative

This is the funny ads.

This is the creative ads.

What do you think both types of ads, similar or different?

I think funny and creative are both important elements for advertisement because funny can attract audiences to watch ads, and creative can make ads funny. It is a cycle, so funny and creative are elements for good ads. A good ad need to have both elements, but just has them; it is not enough. Who is the audience?  Good ads has a clear target audiences. For example, the Pepsi ads in the “Funniest Super bowl Commercials of 2012 “target all kinds of people because the girl say the slogan:”Pepsi for all.” It is show the product range–it is for everyone. The clear targets +creative ideas= successful, funny and creative ads. This is my idea about the relationship between funny and creative in ads industry. I think there are more elements for a good and successful ads. We need to discover them, Let’s do it.
